What software do you use for laboratory timetabling?
At UQ in the first year Chemistry lab we use a Filemaker Pro database which was written in house, but has required some changes this semester, which has led to some unfortunate problems. Is there a commercial alternative that anyone knows of?
We would need it to automatically place students into groups based on enrolment information, keep track of tutor and student schedules, record attendance, keep grades, and be able to email out personalised timetables, all across multiple courses, with the possibility of having more than one course happening at the same time, for around 1500 students. Doesn't sound too complicated, does it? Any suggestions?
Philip.

SAP?
I am sure you could get an excellent package from SAP for under $20 000 ;)
I am not sure of alternatives that might be cheaper though. I think most institutions get by with a lot of manual checking and guessing.
